| 'Peerzada was heard before sacking' | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 28 The senior Congress leader and former Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed was sacked after giving him an opportunity of being heard and not merely on the allegations, said Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma. Mangat's this confirmation came today while the opposition was demanding sacking of two PDP Ministers –Qazi Mohammad Afazal and Tariq Hameed Karra. Mangat was talking to the reporters while reacting to the Opposition's demand. Mangat also confirmed that Peerzada's driver upon his arrest has confirmed that the money he had accepted from the legislator (Shoaib Lone) was meant for the Minister. The driver was arrested later and he has reportedly confessed that he had made the call and had also taken the bribe from the legislator for the minister. He said, the former minister Peerzada was asked to quit after his driver made a threatening call to the mother of an independent legislator who had levelled corruption charges against Sayeed. The National Conference has been alleging that Afzal and Karra are involved in irregularities in the state's forest department. The irregularities came to light after an official inquiry but the report has not indicted the ministers. 'It was a threatening call made by the minister's driver to the mother of the independent legislator that led to Sayeed's removal from the ministry,' Sharma told reporters here. 'We cannot condemn the ministers - Tariq Hameed Karra and Qazi Mohammad Afzal - unheard,' Sharma said. |
