| Traffic on NH temporarily suspended | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Jan 29 Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only road link between the valley and the rest of the country, was suspended temporarily this morning following snowfall. A traffic department spokesman said the vehicles, which left for Jammu this morning had to return following reports of moderate snowfall around Jawahar Tunnel, the gateway to Kashmir. Some vehicles which had proceeded early were stranded. Moderate snowfall was recorded in Srinagar and adjoining areas this morning renewing the cold wave conditions in the valley. The minimum temperature in Srinagar dipped to minus 0.8 degrees celsius as the city recorded 0.5 mm of snowfall, the Met office said. Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu highway recorded 4.2 mm of snowfall while Banihal recorded 3.2 mm of snowfall during the same period, he said. The Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir received 6.7 mm of snowfall, he said. |
