| Terror comes down in Chenani area, salute to security forces | | | Sumit Sharma

In that last decade of previous century there came a time when Chenani tehsil became the hot bed of militancy. From the year 1990 to 1997, the entire area was under the clutches of militancy and upper reaches like Latti, Mantalai, Sudhmahadev and adjoining hilly areas were virtually under the control of notorious ‘Ansari brothers’ namely Shakeel and Farooq Ansari Both were Pak trained dreaded militants who raised the gang of twenty to twenty five misguided youth of this area to spread terror in the whole area. But in the last 10 years due to lack of people support and concrete efforts of security forces, terrorism has considerably comes down. In fact we can say that after the elimination of dreaded ‘Ansari brothers’ at the hands of army and SOG the backbone of terrorism in this area was broken.
From the year 1990 to 1997 the Chenani area used to be hot bed of terrorism the terrorists led by notorious ‘Ansari brothers’ had established a parallel government in the interior areas of Chenani tehsil. To tackle this menace the state government as a result of the efforts of senior BJP leader Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta formed village defence committee (VDC), but cleaver and dreaded PaK trained ‘Ansari brothers’ remained out of grip of security forces. Finally in 1996 the elder bother Farooq got killed, the power and influence of Hizbul Mujhideen, started to come down and last nail in the coffin of terrorism in this area was thrust when the younger Ansari brother Shakeel was killed by army in fierce encounter in Murmut area.
After the elimination of Shakeel Ansari the smaller terrorists like Javed, Majid and Manzoor surrendered in front of J&K police. With this the group of HM in Chenani area was almost finished. Today ninety percent of the Chenani area is free from the influence of the terrorism no doubt the massacre which took place at Basantgarh two years ago once again raised the fear in the area but fortunately the efforts of security forces did not allow terrorism to raise its head again.
When Early Times reporter contacted V.S Samyal, former SSP Udhampur, presently with vigilance organization, he said, “Killing of Ansari brothers’ played important role in curbing militancy in the area”. Seva Singh SP (Retd) who played an important role in raising VDCs, in the area said “Militancy raised its head due to the support of some locals, once the local support came down, militancy also came down”. Colonel Parihar of BSF and Captain S.S Sejwal of CRPF said, it was the combined efforts of all the security forces that today this area is free from menace of terrorism”.
Today the area which used to tremble with the names of ‘Ansari brothers’ is free from fear of terrorism, although the militants are on the verge of infiltrate though the upper reaches of Latti area but security forces are always on the toe to nab it. The people due to the sacrifices of the personnel of security forces are again living normal life today. |
