| Tearfull adieu to brave soldier | | | Early Times Reporter Kathua | Jan 29 With tears loaded in their eyes and wood sticks in their hand thousands of villagers including relatives and family friends of young army officer Captain Sunil Kumar Chowdhary, who sacrificed his life fighting for the Nation, joined his funeral procession in Kathua on Tuesday afternoon and bid him tearful farewell. The mortal remains were consigned to flames with full military honours. The younger brothers of Captain Chowdhary lit the pyre after their father Lt COL PL Chowdhary saluted his son saying “My son you have made me proud. Sunil ‘s would be wife also joined the funeral procession and wept constantly sitting besides him. “I cannot bear the pain of his separation at this early stage in my life”,She said as her parents consoled her.Mother of sunil was also inconsolable .”My son I was preparing to dress you as bridegroom and your relatives were awaiting to join your marriage ceremony but today you are treating them in this cremation ground, she said . The funeral procession which started from the residence of the brave officer swelled in large numbers as people from all walks of life and paid their last tributes to the brave officer. On the occasion large number of army officers including sub area commander Kathua Brigadier KS Jaswal was present on the occasion along with Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma ,MP Chowdhary Lal Singh, senior state government officers. Floral tributes were also paid on behalf of President of India,State Governor SK Sinha, Chief of Army staff Gen Deepak Kaoppr ,Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad,Goc-inC Western Command and several other senior army officers. Sunil was killed in a counter-insurgency operation in Assam's Tinsukia district on Sunday a day after he received prestigious Sena medal. We are proud of him, said large number of mourners. |
