| Goods worth crores imported without paying tax | | CB presents challan against accused for production of fake documents | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 29 Crime Branch has presented a charge sheet in the Court of Passenger Tax against Riaz Ahmed Lone for production of fake documents for obtaining registration from the Sales Tax Department and subsequent misuse of GST/CST for fraudulent import of goods from outside the state in order to evade tax. In a case FIR NO 64/03, the Crime Branch during investigation noticed that one Rayaz Ahmed Lone had applied before Sales Tax authorities for registration of firm namely ‘Hanaan Traders’ and arranged the requisite documents through his brother Showkat Ahmed son of Abdul Aziz Lone of Ishber Nishat against which CST/CST numbers were allotted to the firm. The identification certificate, purportedly issued by the Tehsildar Tangmarg, proved to be fake and it was established that the said certificate was fabricated by above named Showkat Ahmed who had hatched a criminal conspiracy with proprietors of a transport company Akash Goods Carrier and imported goods worth Rs.1,20,93,213 from outside the state by using fraudulently obtained CST/CST numbers. The investigations further revealed that the proprietors of the said transport company namely Mohammed Ashraf Dar son of Ghulam Mohammed resident of Gopalpora Chadroo and Mohammed Ibrahim Chesti son of Nazir-ud-Din of Lal Bazar Srinagar, imported goods worth Rs. 1, 20, 93,213 thereby subjecting the state exchequer to wrong full loss to the tune of lakhs of rupees which could have been generated as revenue in the form of sales tax against these imports. |
