| CM dedicates memorial to police martyrs | | Says dawning of peace result of their sacrifices | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 30 Paying glowing tributes to valiant jawans and officers of the State police, army and security forces who made supreme sacrifice protecting the lives and property of people and territorial integrity of the country, the Chief Minister, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that dawning of peace in Jammu & Kashmir was the result of these sacrifices. Addressing a function after dedicating police memorial to martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir Police at Railhead here this afternoon, Mr. Azad said "we are proud of our police personnel who sacrificed their today for our tomorrow". The Chief Minister complimented the state police for its fight against militancy along with army and the security forces the result of which, he said, was for every one to see in the shape of peace dawning in the State. He said that people were now pursuing their vocation and leading a peaceful life. He said be it the peaceful celebration of the Republic Day with a large participation of people across the State or the successful conduct of Shri Amarnath yatra the change in the atmosphere was visible everywhere. He hoped that the police foirce would continue to work with same courage, zeal and. Referring to the 60th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi being observed as Martyrs' Day today, Mr. Azad said that it was also a solemn occasion to pay homage to those martyrs of police and security forces who braved tough terrain, hostile climatic conditions and challenging situations to fight for restoration of peace. He said the Martyrs' Day was a befitting occasion to dedicate the memorial to the police martyrs'. He said the memorial situated as it was at a prominent place, would serve as an inspiration to lakhs of people visiting the State besides the local population. The Chief Minister assured the families of police martyrs all support, adding that they should never feel alone. He said it was the duty of the government to take their care. The Chief Minister also interacted with the families of the police martyrs, presenting them mementos and also signed the visitors' book. He complimented the J&K Police Housing Corporation for erecting a befitting memorial on which names of 861 police martyrs have been inscribed. In his address, the Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda said that the memorial was the largest monument in the State in recognition of the sacrifices of the State police personnel. He said it would remind the coming generations the sacrifices offered by them to protect the lives of people and the integrity of the country. He said a smaller memorial was situated at Zewan. Khoda said that the J&K police was recognized as the best police force in the country for its performance. He also gave details of the gallantry awards won by its jawans and officers over the years. He also spoke about the welfare measures taken by the State Police for the welfare of the families of the police martyrs and said that their children were given free education and scholarships in police public schools. He said such schools were proposed to be opened at district level. Minister for Higher Education, Gulchain Singh Charak, legislators, M. Y. Tarigami, Raman Bhalla, Ashwani Sharma, Sham Lal Sharma, Jahangir Mir and Muhammad Amin Bhat, Chief Secretary, B. R. Kundal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Anil Goswami, senior civil, police and security forces officers and prominent citizens were present on the occasion. |
