| Muslims protest construction of parking lot within Idgah premises | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 1 Members of Muslim community on Friday protested against construction of parking slot within the premises of Idgah located near Residency road. Soon after the Friday prayers, hundreds of community members took out a protest rally from Khatika Talab to Idgah after passing through the main markets of old city The protestors were demanding immediate stoppage of work on construction of a parking place within the premises of the Idgah and shouting slogans against the Aquaf authorities and administration. They sought intervention of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in the matter who is holding the portfolio of the Haj and Aquaf. The procession was addressed by the various leaders of the community at Idgah which included Muslim Youth Federation president Hilal Ahamed Beig, Akhil Bharti Gujjar Maha Sabha Kashmir president Ashfiqul Rehaman Poswal and others. Describing the construction of parking slot within Auqaf premises as an attempt to play with the sentiments of the community, the speakers said that government should have taken community members in to confidence before taking such a step. They also criticized the Aquaf administration for playing with the sentiments of the community. The protest threatened to launch an indefinite agitation if government did not stop the construction of the parking lot. |
