| Make it number one tourist attraction: Charak | | Sinha for early restoration of Mubarik Mandi Complex | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 2 Stressing the need for preserving rich old heritage of Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt. General (Retd) S. K. Sinha asked the Indian National Trust for Culture and Heritage (INTACH) and Archeological Survey of India (ASI) to work in close coordination for early preservation and restoration of century old Mubarik Mandi Heritage Complex. This he said in a high level meeting after visiting various complexes of Mubarik Mandi, Dogra Art Museum and Archives library here this morning to see the restoration work initiated by INTACH and ASI under the supervision of Mubarik Mandi Heritage Society Jammu. He was accompanied by Minister for Higher Education Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, Commissioner/Secretary Higher Education Mr. Pramodh Jain, Director Tourism Jammu, Chief Engineer R&B Jammu and other senior officers of INTACH and ASI. Mr. Sinha said that Mubarik Mandi Heritage Complex would attract tourists from across the country as well as globally and added that after its restoration the priority of the society could be its maintenance which is pre-requisite for attracting all kind of tourists to visit this heritage complex. He said that a heritage hotel, sound-n-light show for tourists besides entry ticket for visitors with the pre-recorded phone guidance would be available for visiting tourists about the inner sites of the complex that could generate revenue for its maintenance. He said that the main halls of the complex could also be used for important government functions just as ceremony functions for chief justice, swearing in ceremony of new government and other important meetings. Sinha also gave some suggestions to Mubarik Mandi Heritage Society to make it more tourist attracting place in the country by way of providing cable car to connect it with Bahu Fort. He said that Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board would setup a laser spring in the lawns of the complex. Referring to connect the heritage complex with the circuit of pilgrimage tourism Mr. Sinha assured that SMVDSB would setup a centre to guide the pilgrim tourists to visit this place and also acknowledge them about the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. He said Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University would also consider to setup a research centre for religious philosophy in the historic and cultural perspective of Jammu region. The meeting also presented power point presentation regarding the restoration work initiated by MMHS Jammu. Earlier, Governor inspected Dogra Art Museum, Dogra Art Gallery and saw the various armory monuments, paintings, manuscripts of century old preserved in the museum. He also visited Archives library where 8 lakh files of Dogra rule have been preserved. Sinha also inspected various complexes of the Mubarik Mandi which include Gool Ghar, gray hall, marbal house, pink hall, erstwhile Public Service Commission office, High Court complex, Divisional Commissioner office and gave on spot suggestions to the MMHS for its restoration. Minister for Higher Education and Chairman of Executive Committee of MMHS Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak informed the meeting about the steps taken by the society for its restoration and preservation. He said on the instruction of the Chief Minister and Chairman of MMHS Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad the restoration and preservation work could be reviewed on monthly basis so that this ambitious project would be completed soon. Director Archives Mr. S. A. Qadri on the occasion said that preservation of this heritage complex would transmit a cultural boon to next generations. He said that lakhs of files preserved in the repository of the Archives in the complex is a priceless treasure summing-up the important documents of centuries together. |
