| Military Farms celebrate 119 raising day | | | Early Times reporter

The Military Farms (MFs), responsible for supplying milk and other milk products to soldiers in plain, difficult heights and border, celebrated its 119th raising day.
Besides setting up their own farms in different parts of the valley, the MFs are purchasing thousands of litres of milk and other milk products from locals to meet the requirement.
Purchase of milk from locals, help the villagers, particularly in far flung and remote areas to earn good return of their products, a defence ministry spokesman said.
He said in some areas, which remained cut off due to snowfall and other reasons, personnel from the MFs reach them to collect the milk. Villagers in some areas said purchase of milk by MFs from them had now stopped distress sale. They said this has stopped the role of middle men who were purchasing milk on very low rate from them and later selling in the towns on high rates.
The MFs have also been providing necessary assistance to dairy development authorities of Jammu and Kashmir.
The spokesman said besides milk, the MFs purchase cheese, butter and curd from the local traders and later supply to soliders, including those posted on the Line of Control (Loc) and other border areas and remote and far off places.
He said MFs Srinagar celebrated the day at Badami Bagh cantonment area where among others Brigadier Harendra Mohan, Sub Area Commander attended it.
The Officer Commanding Military Farms Major Sunil Patil expressed his tribute to all ranks of Military Farms who sacrificed their lives during various battles in Kashmir .
