| Sandeep’s hat trick guides KV-I to title win in football | | | Early Times Reporter UDHAMPUR | Feb 3 Kendriya Vidyalaya No. I today emerged winner in the Ist DFA Gold Cup Football Tournament at Major Narayan Singh Stadium, Domain, near here, courtesy hat trick by Sandeep. Little bothered about rains, KV-I boys outplayed Army Public School (Senior) 6-2 making it a one-sided contest. Sandeep scored in the 19th, 37th and 56th minute of the match while other three goals for KV-I came through Surjit (75th), Subash (78th) and Krishna (87th). Rohit and Phinless reduced the margin from APS netting the ball in the 58th and 80th minute. For their performance in the tournament, Sandy and Sanjeev of Udhampur Football Club were adjudged best players for scoring highest eight and seven goals respectively. Akhil of KV-I was declared best goal-keeper of the tournament. The organizers also presented a special prize to Satish Sharma, football coach of Sports Authority of India for his technical support. Later, chief guest of the final, Member Legislative Council (MLA) Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia gave away winners and runners-up trophies besides prizes to all the 11 participating teams. In his address to the young footballers, the chief guest assured that he will take up the matter with Sports Minister regarding appointment of a football coach in Udhampur and also make efforts to get the ground levelled at the earliest. Prominent among those present were resident secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), Shiv Pal Sharma and Bhushan Sethi, volleyball coach as also members of the Udhampur Football Association. Earlier, in his welcome address, general secretary of the Association, Tushar Khajuria urged upon the government to appoint a football coach for district udhampur and also help in improving the infrastructure.
