| Short duration session likely soon | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 3 Leaving the agenda unfinished after being trounced by the opposition on the floor of the House, the government is considering options of holding a short duration session to pass important legislations. Before being adjourned sine die on January 30, ten days ahead of the schedule, the legislative assembly in its this session could have only 17 sittings. However, the important government business listed in the calendar could not be transacted as for more than ten sittings the House had to be adjourned midway due to noisy protests from the position. Following an overwhelming suggestions from all parties and a huge pile of government business still pending, the duration of the session was extended till February 9 from the initial calendar of January 29. Most of the government business listed was to be transacted beyond January 30 when the Speaker did not have any other option but to adjourn the House. It has become imminent for the government to convene a fresh session of the assembly as promises have already been made on some of the issues which need legislation. Sources in the ruling alliance said that in the present election year government can not afford to bow before the pressures and whims of the opposition. While it was widely believed that the government may convene short duration assembly session in the month of May-June in Srinagar but reliable sources said that it could be earlier also in March or April. Sources pointed out that this year elections are just a matter of surprise and putting the session to May-June can be like not having it all. There is a possibility of advancing the elections to the month of May and if something like this is decided well in time, the government can go in a small assembly session in April and announce elections immediately after that, sources pointed out. However, it has to be keenly watched as how the situation between the coalition partners Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress assume in the near future.
