| Hakeem for cancelling licenses, route permits of negligent drivers | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 4 Both licenses and route permits of transporters found using tape recorders, transistors and mobile phones during driving would be cancelled as it would be construed utter negligence on the part of drivers. This was stated by the Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen while reviewing the functioning of transport department at a meeting here today. The Minister said that the order would apply to commercial as well as non-commercial vehicles and for the purpose checking squads would be constituted shortly. These squads to be deployed in all routes would be required to submit fortnightly reports to higher authorities of Transport department. The meeting was informed that Rs5.29 crore revenue was earned by the department upto ending December, 2007 which is Rs.50 lakh more than the revenue of corresponding period of the previous year. The Minister though appreciated the targets achieved by the department stressed the need to improve it further. Threadbare discussions were also held on Passengers Welfare Fund and rationalization of the staff. Postings and promotions of the employees also came up for discussion. Addressing the meeting the Minister asked officers to strive for strengthening revenue component by optimal mobilization of resources. He appreciated the performance of officers and asked them to leave no stone unturned in generating more revenue for the State. Among others, Secretary, Transport S. Dileep Singh, Transport Commissioner, Joint Transport Commissioner, Regional Transport Officer, Kathua, R.T.O, Jammu, R.T.O, Srinagar and other senior officers attended the meeting. |
