| Shortage of food, cooking gas hit cut off areas in Doda | | Links snapped to upper habitations as snow plays havoc | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 6 The people of Doda has been exposed to lot of inconvenience with food grains and cooking gas going out of stock following incessant snowfall over last four days which has cut off most parts of the district. Even communication links to upper reaches including Bhallesa, parts of Bhaderwah in Doda district and further away to Padder and Marwah Dhachan areas of newly carved out Kishtawar District have been snapped leaving administration totally ignorant about the condition of people in the area, a senior officer in district administration told KMT here on Thursday. The reports coming from areas where the telephone services are still working said that the areas are experiencing continues snowfall since last afternoon throwing a blanket of over three feet snow all around. The second biggest town, Bhaderwah after the district head quarter Doda city had experienced three feet snow fall till this afternoon, which was still continuing. A caller from Bahderwah told KMT that with only road link to the area blocked since last three days, the gas and food stores are running out of stock. He said people are facing great hardship as it was very difficult to move around with snow up to the waste, adding that no body knows what has happened to people living further away on higher reaches as there was no telephone communication to many areas since today morning. The snowfall disrupted road communication, electricity and water supply systems all around throwing normal out of gear, the caller said adding that shortage of cocking gas and food grains have further exposed the people to lot of hardships. The situation is no different in mountainous district of Kishtawar, where areas like Padder , Marwah and Dachan are totally cutoff from the rest of the state. |
