Decks have cleared by the police headquarter to fill the vacant posts of three Inspector generals of police in the state.
The front runners as per the seniority list Mr Gopal Reddy and Mr Zahoor Chisti, who were recently elevated to the IG rank are expected to occupy the two seats.
Official sources said that DIG LI Mohanty is being tipped to get promoted to the IG rank to fill the third spot. According to official sources in the police headquarters, the Chief Minister,Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, has accepted the suggestion of the Director General
police,Mr Kuldeep Khoda,on filling all vacant posts of senior functionaries so that work in the police Department did not suffer.
Meanwhile, the recruitment for two additional police battalions is expected to be completed within next two months. The Government of India has already sanctioned
raising of three more police battalions including one battalion of women police. The recruitment for these three battalions will start after three to four months, according to police sources.
The need for raising a woman police battalion has been felt after people had been clamouring over molestation of women during search operations.Mr Khoda has decided to involve women constables and officials in search operations and in questioning those women suspected to be overground supporters of militants.
The state Government has already conveyed to the Union Home Ministry that withdrawal of troops from within the state depended on the size and strength of
the police force. If 18 to 20 more police battalions were added to the existing police force troops could be sent back to the barracks from within the civilian areas.
