| Tasaduq Mufti questions credibility of J&K Police | | |

Jammu, Apr 17: Tourism Minister Tasaduq Mufti had recently indicated that people don't trust Jammu and Kashmir Police and he had put a question mark over the credibility of the force.
"If a Minister can question the credibility of the J&K Police why can't people do so? People of Rasana too had the same point but their voice was muzzled," an analyst said.
In an interview to a national daily the Tasaduq Mufti, who is also the brother of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, had said: "Over the past few weeks, I have been meeting young people from various parts of the Valley and most of them express deep sense of distress and anger. No one has ever heard them out.
Boys as young as 14 spoke about continuous harassment by the police after an FIR was lodged against them and how they have to pay bribes to get out. Most of them are not even in the voting age and they are nobody's vote-bank, nobody's concern. There is no communication with them. But they matter the most."
An observer while talking to Early Times said, "Tasaduq has come on record and has said that J&K Police take bribes and harass the people. The people of Kathua had also expressed same apprehensions and demanded that rape and murder case of the Kathua girl should be handed over to CBI. Unfortunately they were labeled as pro-rapist."
He said, "A notion is being created that whatever the Crime Branch has investigated is a gospel truth and there is no room for investigations being unfair. If investigations are fair and CB has done a wonderful job then why is state government not handing over the case to CBI. If the investigations are fair CBI would endorse it as the CBI is country's premiere investigating agency."
He said that entire Jammu wants that perpetrators should be punished. "No one is supporting the rapist and murderers. The demand for the fair probe is being wrongly projected. It's really sad," he added. |
