BGSBU holds biodiversity quiz

In its efforts to reverse the growing trend of shunning science as a career among the emerging generations, Centre for Biodiversity Studies of the BGSB University organized the first ever State Level Biodiversity Quiz for nodal schools of Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu regions.
Centre for Biodiversity Studies has the distinction of being one of the eight institutions identified as Regional Resource Agency (RRA) by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India for implementation of the DNA Clubs programme across the country. Under this programme the BGSBU has selected 10 nodal schools representing various socio-economic backgrounds in all three regions i.e., Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu. The nodal schools are called DNA Clubs "Department of Biotechnology's Natural Resource Awareness Clubs".
The Prize distribution function of the State Level Biodiversity Quiz was held at K.B. Public School Jammu. Mr. A.K. Srivastava, Chief Wildlife Warden, Dept. of Wildlife Protection J&K was the chief guest of the event while Prof. A.K Koul, Dean School of Biosciences and Biotechnology presided over the function. Prof. R.N. Gohil, various senior officer of the Department of Wildlife Protection, were also present, while several other dignitaries including scientists, academicians, journalist, researchers, members of the nodal schools from Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu regions attended the function.
Srivastava and Koul distributed the mementoes and certificates to winner teams of the State Level Biodiversity Quiz conducted earlier by the RRA. The first prize for the Quiz was won by Himalayan Education Mission Jammu, second prize goes to St. Peters Public School Jammu while 3rd prize was won by KB Public School Jammu
At the onset Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed Zarri Scientist and J&K State Coordinator of the this national Programme presented the aims and objectives of the project and welcomed the guests and ongoing four-week Vacation Training Programme. Srivastava in his address expressed the need for such initiatives for fostering concern among the emerging generation for biodiversity conservation. He congratulated the Centre for Biodiversity Studies of the BGSBU for getting selected as one of the eight RRA for implementation of this prestigious national level programme.
Koul in his presidential address expressed his satisfaction over the achievements of the Centre for Biodiversity Studies and contributions it has been able to make through various research, extension education and eco-restoration projects. He attributed the successful start CBS to the dedication of the staff and also foresight and support of the Vice Chancellor BGSBU Masud Ahmed Choudhary. Dr. Sudha Jala Kohli presented the vote of thanks.
