Awaiting appeal for peace from Kashmir on the lines of Jammu
4/20/2018 10:44:08 PM
Hope with the appeal from the Gujjar community and others the controversial rape and murder of Rassana victim may promote regional balance and communal order. At least during the last couple of months the rape and murder of Rassana victim have resulted in regional and communal tension. But the way Kashmir centric Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, has handled the case seems to have incited confidence among the minorities in the region of Jammu. And she is supposed to deal firmly with those staging protest demonstration against rape and murder of victim in the Kashmir valley which has a potential of derailing peace in the state and give a fillip to regional and communal tension. Had not a section of the BJP sided with the Hindu Ekta Manch the murder of victim would have not motivated the UN to voice its concern and lead to the resignation or sacking of the two BJP ministers, Lal Singh, and Chander Prakash. And the Chief Minister wanted to punish these BJP ministers for taking part in the protest rallies organized by Hindu Ekta Manch and indication is given by the way she submitted their resignation to the Governor who had no other alternative but to accept these resignations.
A group of people from different organisations have appealed to people to maintain communal harmony in the region, and stand against the communal politics being played over the rape and murder of a minor girl in Kathua district. The meeting had participants from over two dozen organisations, and was led by former IPS officer and former vice-chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Masood Choudhary.
"In the backdrop of heinous crime of rape and murder of a minor girl in Kathua district in January, the Gurjardesh Charitable Trust appreciates unanimous concern of whole country in seeking justice for the victim and underlines the need to maintain peace and communal harmony. The meeting was attended by people from different castes, communities and religions to send out the message that there is no space for communal politics in the region. Hailing Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for taking "bold stand" on the issue, the participants in the meeting said there is no need for the CBI's investigation into the issue. Mehbooba has taken a principal stand against her own ministers, questioning their presence in the pro-rapist rally.
Even if the Chief Minister and Supreme Court have ruled out the scope for holding a probe by the CBI there would have been no harm if the case was handed over to the CBI. Recalling the words of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee where he talked about following 'Raj Dharma' (the ruler's duty), Choudhary, said Mehbooba did exactly the same with this issue. Importantly, the state's chief minister with regard to Kathua rape has assured the people that the investigations into the case are on fast track, adding that "law will not be obstructed by the irresponsible actions". Now the minorities in Kathua and Samba are feeling secure that the government is with them, Masood said in his statement, adding that such steps instill a sense of security among the minorities as they feel police, administration and government is standing behind them. One expects appeal to people to maintain peace and communal harmony be issued from Kashmir valley which is bound to promote regional and communal amity. If a section of people, besides separatists voice concern and anger against those demanding CBI probe they should be told to desist from this and help the authorities to restore peace in the state.
