Jammu | Feb 7
while all the road and air links to Kashmir valley remain snapped for last some days, the people of upper reaches of Jammu province are exposed to inconvenience of every sort due to incessant snowfall from last some days.
The constant snowfall has cut off the valley from rest of the country as the avalanches on Jammu Srinagar National Highway, triggered by rains and snow have snapped the road and air links.
The cold wave has intensified due to continuous snowfall in valley making the people to shiver as the temperatures have dipped below the normal from last some days.
Vast areas were covered under thick white sheets of snow in Kashmir, which remained cut off from rest of the country for the second consecutive day today.
Official sources told Kashmir Media Trust that over 1200 vehicles, including trucks carrying essential commodities, were stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, which remained closed for the fourth successive day.
Sources further said that on the Jawahar Tunnel about eight to nine feet of snow was deposited on the Jawahar tunnel rendering the national highway blocked.
At Pahalgam and Gulmarg continuous snowfall coupled with winds have intensified the cold wave compelling the people to remain indoors, sources said.
Meanwhile the people of Doda District are exposed to all sorts of trouble due to cold wave triggered by incessant snowfall from last four days.
The essential commodities have gone out of stock following the continuous snowfall cutting off most parts of the District and the administration is clueless about the handling to situation.
Official sources told KMT that even communication links to upper reaches including Bhallesa, parts of Bhaderwah in Doda district and farther areas of Padder and Marwah Dhachan of newly carved out Kishtawar District have been snapped leaving administration totally unaware about the condition of people in the area.
The reports reaching here from areas where the telephone services are still working said that the areas are experiencing continuous snowfall since last couple of days throwing a blanket of over three feet snow all around.
The second biggest town, Bhaderwah after the district head quarter Doda city had experienced four feet snow fall till this afternoon, which was still continuing. A caller from Bahderwah told KMT that with only road link to the area blocked since last three days, the cooking gas and food stores are running out of stock.
He said people are facing great hardship as it was very difficult to move around with snow up to the waist, adding that no body knows the fate of the people living further away on higher reaches as there was no telephone communication to many areas since yesterday morning.
The snowfall disrupted road communication, electricity and water supply systems all around throwing normal out of gear, the caller said adding that shortage of cocking gas and food grains have further exposed the people to lot of hardships.
The situation is no different in mountainous district of Kishtawar, where areas like Padder , Marwah and Dachan are totally cutoff from the rest of the state.
