Urging upon the government to take immediate steps for restoration of the water and electricity supply besides ensuring early opening of various roads blocked due to heavy snow, former finance minister and National Conference leader Abdul Rahim Rather today said that people are suffering due to the non-availability of essential commodities in Valley and other parts of the state.
In a press statement issued here today, National conference leader said that majority of the areas of Valley, which witnessed heavy snow fall, are without power and water supply and people have been left at the mercy of God.
"I have received reports that most parts of Kashmir Valley were without basic amenities including water and electricity, which has added to the miseries of the general masses.
He said government should restore essential supplies on war-footing so that the people do not suffer. "I appeal to the government to take immediate steps for restoration of the road links besides water and power supply", Rather demanded adding government must take appropriate measures so that the people may not suffer.
He said that the passengers stranded at Jammu due to the closure of National highway are facing hardships as they don't have sufficient arrangements. He asked government to make some alternate temporary arrangements for their lodging.
"Government can even air lift the stranded passengers like it has been doing in past", he said while demanding that the stranded passengers be Air-lifted and till then some alternate arrangements be made on temporary basis.
