Consumer Commission decides appeal pending since four years
Enhances compensation in favour of Rice Mill

The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission today decided a complaint which was pending disposal for more than four years by enhancing the compensation to Rs.8, 43, 800 from Rs.6, 78,708 along with 6 per cent interest per annum from the date of filling the complaint viz May 7, 2003 till the final payment is made.
This decision was passed on a complaint filed by M/S Chainana Rice Mill through its proprietor Narinder Singh R/O Kotli Mian Fateh R S Pura against National Insurance Company stating therein that loss was caused to the stocks of paddy rice and the building of the complainant in severe storm which had hit the Rice Mill on May 30, 2000 and the surveyor had assed the loss on the lower side which was not accepted by the Commission.
Five suspected hoarders, profiteers rounded up; 13 LGP cylinders recovered
Doda Feb 07 Police today rounded up five persons allegedly involved in hoarding and profiteering and recovered 13 LPG cylinders of domestic use from Sweet-cum-Bakery shops.
Following receipt of complaints regarding hoarding and profiteering in view of shortage of LPG cylinders in the wake of snow fall leading to closure of roads, a Police team headed by SHO Doda conducted raids in the town. During these raids 13 LPG of domestic use were recovered from sweet/bakery shops. The preliminary investigation revealed that each LPG cylinder weighing 19 kgs meant for commercial purposes costs Rs.1170 each while LGP cylinder weighing 14 kgs meant for domestic purposes costs Rs.303 only but the owners/workers of these commercial shops illegally managed LGP cylinders of domestic use and used the same for commercial purposes thereby indulging in hoarding and profiteering.
The SSP said that a case FIR NO 21/2008 u/s 3/7 Essential Commodities Act was registered in this regard against the suspects who have been identified as Sanjay Kumar s/o Puran Chand r/o Raipur Manpur Basholi, Subash Chander s/o Narsingh Dass r/o Sayal Udhampr, Ravi Kumar s/o Hans Raj r/o Billawar, Hans Raj s/o Prem Nath of Majalta Udhampur and Liaqat Ali s/o Ghulam Ahmed r/o Shinal Doda have been taken into custody for further investigation.
