| Government claims on ending discrimination farce: JSM | | ’Only 28 pc employees from Jammu region working in Civil Secretariat’ | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 7 Sharply reacting to the claims being made by the Government that all the regions are equally treated and there is no discrimination against the Jammu region, Jammu State Morcha (JSM) today alleged that Jammu is being given step motherly treatment and cited several instances to substantiate its charges. In a statement issued here today, the Morcha said that so long Jammu region remains a part of Jammu and Kashmir State, it is going to suffer and its aspirations are not going to be fulfilled. The Morcha said since the Government of India continues to appease the Kashmiri leaders at the cost of the people of Jammu region, therefore the only way out for the Jammuties is to demand for a separate state for Jammu region. Substantiating its claim of discrimination with the Jammu region, the Morcha said that only 28 per cent employees working in the Civil Secretariat belong to Jammu region and almost all the offices of the State Corporations are located in the Valley with cent per cent employees drawn from the Valley. Similarly, at provincial level services, 30 per cent employees belonging to Kashmir Valley are posted in Jammu province against just one per cent employees from Jammu region posted in Kashmir. The Morcha said that out of the total unemployed youth 70 per cent belong to Jammu province as compared to about 30 per cent from Kashmir Valley. Till September, 2006 there were 63,613 unemployed youth registered in employment exchanges in Jammu compared to 35,329 registered in Kashmir Valley, the statement alleged. As regards selection in professional institutions, particularly in the medical and agriculture sectors, hardly 25 per cent of candidates are selected from Jammu region. Similar is the case with the tourism sector where about 90 per cent funds are allocated for Kashmir Valley though Jammu region having tremendous potential has never been explored during the last 60 years. The Morcha further alleged that the attitude of the present government is also reflected from the fact that it has gone back from the promise of Delimitation Commission and enhancement of representation to Jammu region in the State Assembly vis-à-vis Kashmir Valley. The way the Wazir Commission Report was distorted and skewed to favour Kashmir region also speaks of the Kashmir oriented policy of the present government and the bias against Jammu province. |
