| HC allows Bhandara at Shiv Khori Cave | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 7 Justice JP Singh of J&K High Court, Jammu Wing, in an application filed Mahant Omkar Giri seeking permission to hold Bhandara at the Samadhi of Lt. Mahant Romesh Giri today allowed the application and permitted to hold Bandara at the Samadhi of Lt. Guru of applicant at Shiv Khori outside the cave on February 10, 2008. Earlier, Sr. Adv UK Jalali and AAG AH Qazi appearing for the respondents opposing this application, submitted that Mahant Omkar Giri has no right to hold Bandara at the Samadhi of Lt. Mahant Romes Giri which is stated to have come into being after the death of Lt. Mahant, who was laid to rest at a place near opening of Shiv-Khori Shrine. They thus seek rejection of this application. Justice Singh, after hearing Adv DS Thakur appearing for the petitioner and other side and considering their submissions, observed that annual religious congregation of feeding Sadhus' and performing other religious rites at a place where a Sant is laid to rest, which is commonly known as Bandara, is arranged and managed either by his disciples or by others who hold him reverence for making prayers for resting his soul in peace. This right of disciple of offering obeisance to his Lt Guru, flowing from Constitution of India cannot be interfered with by the respondents' objections in permitting petitioner from holding Bandara at the Samadhi of his Lt Guru cannot thus be entertained. Holding of such a congregation will not interfere in any manner whatsoever in the administration of the Shrine by the respondents. Allowing this application, Mahant Omkar Giri is permitted to hold Bandara at the Samadhi of his late Guru at Shiv-Khori outside the cave on February 10, 2008. Holding of this Bandara shall, however, be under the supervision and control of Deputy Commissioner Reasi, the Justice Singh directed. JNF |
