| Nothing well in Jammu | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 7 With a major attention of the government focused on the situation in Kashmir Valley, many regions in Jammu region have gone incommunicado, the scarcity of essentials is hitting hard and parents are clueless about sending their children to schools. With every passing day, the temperature is nose-diving but the government has not come up with any official announcement about schooling. The parents are extremely wary of sending their children to the schools and many representations are pouring in for announcing vacations in the schools till weather improves. Grim reports of situation have been pouring in from across the region, particularly the districts of Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar. After waiting for three consecutive days for any form of help from the state government authorities large number of residents in Doda and Kisthwar on thursady started screaming for help as uninterrupted snowfall for over 48 hours in the region is posing lot of hardships to these residents. “We fear that we may bury alive under snow if it snows continuously, Krishan Lal resident of Kehwan in Kishtwar reportedly said urging state government authorities to come to their aid. Our children are suffering high fever and we are running out of food stock. we cannot step out in 8 ft snow, Krishnal Lal said urging mediamen to forward their cries for help to the state administration. Meanwhile in a high level meeting held here this evening to take stock of the situation arising out of heavy snowfall in Jammu division especially in Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar districts, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad directed the administration to ensure quick response to the possible emergency. He said top priority should be accorded to reopening of the blocked Batote-Kishtwar and Doda-Bhadarwah roads so that essential supplies could be dispatched to the affected areas in the event of need. The Chief Minister issued instructions for deployment of senior engineers at Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar district headquarters to monitor the situation and ensure immediate restoration of essential supplies like power and water as well as for snow clearance on roads. The Chief Minister asked the DGP to constantly obtain information from inaccessible areas through the massive police telecommunication network so that the administration could take quick measures to respond to situation. He also asked him to be in touch with the army for keeping helipads available in remote areas like Marwah, Dachhan, Warwan, Paddar, Gool, Gulab Garh and Dudu-Basantgarh in order to make sure prompt supply of medicines and other essentials should the situation demand. He called for warning people against avalanches to minimize possibilities of human loss on this account. |
