Journalists pay tributes Jalali

The death of veteran Journalist and political analyst PN Jalali has been widely mourned in Jammu and Kashmir. Condolence meetings were held today in Jammu and Srinagar in which apart from the members of the journalist fraternity, may distinguished citizens and political figures took part.
In Jammu a condolence meeting was held at Press club where rich tributes were paid to Mr Jalali.The speakers at the meeting, including former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister DrFarooq Abdullah noted journalist Prof Shyam Koul, PTI chief MK Bangroo,Abdul Rahim Takroo of CPI and MLC Devender Singh Rana.
DrFarooq Abdullah paying rich tributes described Mr Jalali as an iconic figure and ardent advocates of the ethos of Kashmiriyat which lay stress on the preservation of noble values of human brotherhood.
He said it was a sad commentary on our society that no recognition is given to distinguished and veteran journalists who render invaluable service to the society and the state as a whole.
Shyam Koul spoke in detail of Mr Jalali’s contribution to the growth of healthy journalism in Jammu and Kashmir and his stellar role in working for promotion of progressive,political values and secular democratic forces.
Mr Bangroo recalled his long association with Mr Jalali , who he said had always been an inspiration for the younger journalists in Jammu and Kashmir.
Devender Singh Rana and AR Takroo said tha death of Mr Jalali was not only a loss to the journalist community only but to all the progressive forces and the ethos of Kashmiriyat.
The meeting observed two minutes silence in the memory of the departed soul. Jammu and Kashmir working journalists union also condoled the demise of PN Jalali in a separate condolence meeting in Janipur.
P N Jalali passed away in the union capital after a prolonged illness on Thursday. He was 81 and is survived by only son Rahul Jalali, President Press club of India. Last rites of Mr Jalali will be performed in Nigam bodh ghat in New Delhi on saturday.
