| Airlift stranded passengers: Sadhotra | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 8 State government should come forward and take immediate steps to airlift the stranded passengers at Jammu who are facing hardships after the closure of the Jammu – Srinagar National highway, said Ajay Sadhotra, Provincial President J&K National Conference, Jammu province in a statement issued here today. He urged the government to take immediate steps for restoration of the water and electricity supply besides ensuring early opening of various roads blocked due to heavy snow in Jammu province, as the majority of the areas of Jammu province which witnessed heavy rains and snowfall are without power, electricity. The situation is grave in hilly areas of Jammu region as most of the places including Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar have been cut off from the rest of the world and life has almost came to standstill in all these districts. The government should understand the intensity of the situation arisen due to the severe climatic conditions and should take immediate steps on war footing to provide food and other essential commodities in the parts of the province which were affected from the snow fall, so that the poor people do not suffer, he said. The incessant rains and unprecedented snowfall have also caused massive damage to property across the Jammu region. He called upon the state government to gear up its machinery and deploy special teams to assess the losses suffered by the people in various districts of the province due to heavy snow fall and rains. He also demanded payment of relief to the sufferers on war footing. |
