| Chaman for relief to snow-hit on war footing | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 8 Voicing their serious concern over the sad plight of the inhabitants in far off areas because of heavy snowfall during the past five days, the former Union Minister and a senior leader of the BJP, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has impressed upon the authorities to take measures on war footing to provide relief and other help to the hapless people. Referring to the various alarming reports he has received from various areas of Doda, Kishtwar, Bani, Mahore and other places, Prof. Gupta said that the very heavy snowfall at many places of Doda-Kishtwar districts and in other areas have made the life miserable and many of these areas have been totally cut off from district and Tehsil headquarters. The administrative machinery is in shambles as there is little storing of the rations beyond the district headquarters. He further said that there is need to act rather than mere making loud claims of gearing up the administrative machinery alone. The first thing should be to establish links with the totally cut off areas like Paddar, Marwah, Dachhan and others. There are alarming reports that not only the link roads but also certain vital bridges including one that of Drabshalla linking Kishtwar has been damaged. The BJP leader stressed for seeking army help for restoration of such vital links, especially the bridges and gearing up the snow clearing operations to reach the snow-trapped villagers. In addition to air-dropping of essential commodities should also be considered in far off areas. |
