Political reservation for Gujjars sought

All Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar Conference (AJKGC) today demanded political reservation for the Gujjar community in the ensuing assembly elections of the state besides threatening that they will pursue to get stay on coming elections from the Supreme Court of India in case government failed to redress their problems.
Addressing in a press conference here on Friday, president AJKGC Anam Chowdhary criticized the coalition government for not providing political reservation to one of the largest community of the state despite the earlier assurances of the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Threatening that the community members will purse to get stay on the ensuing elections of the state from the Supreme Court of India if the state government failed to redress their problems, he said, adding that in spite of this they will start a mass agitation across the state to highlight their problems.
"There are various Gujjar leaders who deceived their own community and I therefore appealed to every party not to give mandate such people in the coming election ", Chowdhary said.
He further said that Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has assured them earlier that their government will bring a bill in the assembly regarding the political reservation of the community but till date nothing has been done even though the assembly got adjourned.
He also demanded that like Kashmiri and Dogri languages, Gojri language too be included in the 8th scheduled of Indian constitution as being the largest community in the state.
Moreover, he demanded modification in the reservation act of SRO 294, which presently hampered the promotion of the government employees of the Gujjar community.
Others present on the occasion included Maqbool chowdhary, Iqbal Chowdhary and others.
