| 3 militants killed in Poonch encounter | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 8 At least three militants, believed to be foreign nationals, were killed in an encounter at Chhatral area of Mendhar in Jammu Kashmir's Poonch district, on Friday morning. Informed sources told News Agency of Kashmir that on specific information about the presence of a group of militants in a Gujjar Dhok, troops of 39 RR (Romeo Force) and SOG of Jammu Kashmir Police launched search operation in the area. "The troops of 39 RR were headed by Col Sai Prasad while SOG team was led by SDPO Mendhar Sanjay Singh Rana", sources added. They said soon after the troops zeroed in the suspected hideout, militants fire on the troops triggering a gun fight. Defence spokesman Lt Col SD Goswami when contacted told News Agency of Kashmir that three militants were killed in the encounter. "The slain militants were part of a receiving party and had struck due to heavy snow fall taken shelter in a Dhok", he said. Three AK 47 riffles, 10 Magazine, 138 rounds, 6 hand grenades and 2 wireless sets were recovered from the encounter site, Goswami told NAK adding the search operation was still going on. |
