Vakil for ST status to Paharis
Calls for empowerment of Pahari youth

Minister for Social Welfare Mr.Abdul Gani Vakil has emphasised the need for empowering Pahari youth through entrepreneurship development to open new vistas of socio-economic development for them. "Requisite capacities should be build for the purpose in them", he added.
He was chairing a review meeting of Pahari Advisory Board here this morning.
Vice Chairman Pahari Advisory Board Mr. Shabir Khan, legislators Mr.Ashok Sharma and Mr.Puran Singh, Financial Commissioner Planning Mr. S. S. Kapoor, Vice Chairman Jammu Development Authority, Director Social Welfare, Special Secretary GAD and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
The Minister advised the Board to come out with futureristic plans focusing on creating and developing assets instrumental for ensuring economic independence of Pahari youth, "To achieve this goal technical education in market oriented trades needs to be imparted to the youth. Board must formulate projects envisaging development of infrastructure in this regard", he said.
Strongly advocating grant of ST status to Paharis, the Minister assured that government would strongly pursue it with Centre in this regard. " A community, which has been co-habiting the same place as their Gujjar brethren in identical environment and social milieu certainly deserves ST status", he observed.
Vakil called for early constitution of committee to explore the possibility of extending OBC status to Pahari community till the grant of ST status in pursuance of direction of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad.
