Jammu | Feb 8
Breaking all bureaucratic hurdles, People of Pakistan and staff of Radio Kashmir Jammu have started establishing `people to people’ contact. The beginning has been made by the exchange of gifts from across the borders and discussing the socio-political condition in their respective countries through letters.
This was stated by Station Director of Radio Kashmir Jammu, Dr K C Dubey, while addressing a press conference at Press Club Jammu today.
Showing a piece of cloth, which he claimed was sent by a Pakistani listener to a programme official, Dr Dubey said that the Station received it as a gift. ``This piece of cloth was sent to Mr Nitish Arora for converting it into trousers, since Mr Arora’s programme Yuva Vani Dost is very much liked by the listeners across the border”, Dr Dubey claimed.
He said that through this programme, people of that country also talk about the prevailing condition in Pakistan. He circulated number of letters, written in Urdu, to the mediamen and even read some of them.
The Station Director maintained that number of special programnmes were organized by Radio Kashmir Jammu, which include five music concerts, live phone-in programmes etc.
When a reporter drew his attention towards frequent breakdowns and challenges from private TV and Radio, Dr Dubey said that it will not make any difference to the functioning of Radio Jammu. `` I have seen number of such private media channels at Chandigarh and Shimla where they failed to pose any challenge to us, since ours is a public media”, Dr Dubey said. He, however, admitted that there have been instances of poor quality and frequent breakdowns in the RKJ transmissions but blamed State Government authorities for power breakdowns etc. Station Engineer P R Meena was also present on the occasion who claimed that of late there has been less breakdowns in the transmissions.
Dr Dubey said that despite shortage of staff, Radio Jammu was functioning to the satisfaction of masses. He said that as against 22 Trexes, there were only 11 such officials working at Jammu. Similarly, only one Assistant Station Director was there as against sanctioned strength of three. Similarly there were less announcers. A copy of the Station profile, giving budget allocation details etc was also circulated on the occasion.
The Station Director said that Radio Jammu is known for Dogri Music, Dareeche, Shubh Prabhat and Radio Doorbean like porogramme.
