| In Valley of death JKP wins hearts and Rs 50,000 | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 8 As Valley resident enter the severe danger zone with avalanches continuing to take human toll, the Jammu and Kashmir Police is winning hearts of people by their valour and timely rescue operations. Putting their own lives at risk, Qazigund Police rescued 39 people and recovered a dead body from snow struck Gulab Bagh area of Qazigund, today. Out of the rescued people, two were in injured condition. According to SP Swayam Prakash Pani, Police received information that a residential structure had collapsed at Gulab Bagh in Qazigund, which had received more that 11 feet's of snow during last three days. Gulab Bagh are is around five kilometers away from Qazigund Toll Post, deep in the Jungle area. He said that the area also fell in the avalanche prone zone and with avalanche warning sounded, people needed to be evacuated to safer places immediately. In this regard, a rescue team headed by SHO Qazigund, Sub –Inspector Reyaz Ahmed was immediately dispatched to the area, he added. He stated that putting their own lives at risk, the Police party reached the target area where a residential structure had collapsed in which one Mohammed Shafi Chechi, S/O Haji Makhna was killed and two others identified as Mohammed Yaqoob S/O Haji Makhna and his daughter Razia Chechi were injured with fractures in both the legs. He said that the dead body was recovered and the injured were shifted for medical treatment. He further said that 32 more villagers who were in extreme danger were also rescued by the Police and shifted to safer places where they are being provided adequate food, shelter and other amenities. Impressed by the performance of his cops, The DGP Kuldeep Khoda has announced a cash award of Rs. 50,000 in favour of the police party led by SDPO Kulgam Bashir Ahmad Dar and SHO Qazigund who rescued 39 persons. Complimenting Mr. Dar and the police party led by him for the yeoman's job done in rescuing civilians and rushing them to safer places, Mr. Khoda said that police has always be ready for help of needy in excegencies and calamities. He said that the police party led by SDPO Kulgam soon after the avalanche hit the hamlet rushed to the spot and exerted hard to save the innocent lives despite heavy challenges, inclement weather and inaccessibility. The rescued and the locals have also lauded the role of the police party from Kulgam for their dedicated and devoted efforts in rescuing the trapped population and saving innocent lives. Khoda has directed the Police force to maintain close coordination and work in unison with civil administration to provide every possible relief and succour to the people in view of post snow situation that has caused sufferings to the people of the state especially those of valley. He asked the Police telecommunication to restore its network across the state to strengthen the concerted efforts among various agencies and intra-police units to intensify and quicker the restoration and relief works. |
