| Sadhotra demands airlifting of stranded passengers | | Bukhari for assessment of losses in snow hit areas | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 9 Urging the State Government for immediate steps to airlift the passengers stranded at Jammu following the closure of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, due to heavy snowfall, the National Conference Provincial President, Jammu, Ajay Sadhotra has impressed the need for restoration of water and electricity supply in the affected areas, besides early removal of blockades on the roads. Describing situation as ‘grave’ in hilly areas of Jammu region, he said most of the places including Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar have been cut off from rest of the country and the life has come to a standstill in all these districts. The Government should understand the intensity of the situation arisen due to the severe cold climatic conditions and take immediate steps on war footing to provide food and other essentials in the affected areas, he added. Referring to the colossal damages caused due to the incessant rains and unprecedented snowfall, the NC leader has called upon the government to gear up its machinery and deploy special teams to assess the losses suffered by the people and also demanded relief to the affected people. In the meantime, another senior NC leader and MLA Surankote, Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari, in a statement issued today has demanded relief for the people of his constituency who suffered damages due to the unprecedented snowfall. Bukhari claimed that several houses have collapsed and large number of cattle heads perished and demanded deployment of special teams to the affected areas to assess the losses. Another National Conference leader and Provincial Secretary Youth National Conference, Aijaz Ahmed Jan, alleged acute shortage of essential commodities in border Poonch district and charged the Government of depriving the residents of the Poonch district of rations. He alleged while the government is distributing food grains among the snow hit people of Doda district, the people of Poonch, who too have suffered equally, are being ignored. Demanding assessment of the losses suffered by the people due to unprecedented rains and snowfall, the NC leader urged the government to ensure availability of all essential commodities in the affected areas. |
