Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) district President Anantnag and Member Legislative Assembly Mohammad Sartaj Madni has asked the administration to gear up the snow clearance operations in Anantnag as most of the areas in the district are still cut off from rest of the Valley.
In a statement issued here today, Madni said the snow-clearance operations in the district are going on at a lackluster pace creating immense hardships for the people inhabiting the areas that witnessed heavy snowfall. He said not only are the people from these areas unable to move out, but the continued road blockades have started creating scarcity of essential commodities including LPG, rations and kerosene oil in most of the villages that continue to remain disconnected.
Madni said the areas in and around the Devsar constituency are the worst affected as major arterial links are yet to be cleared of snow. Quoting instances, he said the Mirbazaar-Pahloo, Qazigund-Kulgam and Qazigund-Waltengo roads continue to be under thick snow as no snow clearance operations have so far been undertaken on these vital connectivity links.
Expressing dismay over the apathetic attitude of the concerned authorities, Madni said that instead of being caught unawares, the authorities should have kept their wherewithal ready to cope up with the situation given the frequent warnings by the meteorological department regarding the imminent weather conditions.
Madni has asked the authorities to speed up the road clearance operations in the area to facilitate smooth movement of traffic and commuters at the earliest. He has also demanded that adequate stocks of essentials commodities must be ensured in the area besides immediate restoration of electricity and drinking water supply.
