| Education is only tool to change destiny of slum habitation: Mangat | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 10 Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma has said education was only tool through which the destiny of slum habitation could be changed. He was addressing on the concluding function of 3-day workshop on "Values of Education" at Bhagwati Nagar last evening. The workshop was organized by National Service Scheme Units of Government Gandhi Memorial Science College Jammu for children living in slums. Sharma further underscored the need for enrolment of all school children in educational institutions and said that government have taken various measures for expansion of education and eradicate illiteracy in the state. He said hundreds of primary schools have been opened in far off, hilly and down trodden areas of the state so that the children of these areas could get their education at their doorsteps. He said free text books, uniforms and mid-day-meals are being also provided to the students upto primary classes across the state. Sharma appreciated the role of NSS of the College who have taken the responsibility of the area for imparting education. He announced a sum of Rs 10,000 as a reward to NSS Units of GGM Science College. The Principal of GGM Science College Prof. Vijay Kotwal encouraged the volunteers uphold the spirit of social service with great excellence and enthusiasm. The function was creatively organized by NSS commander Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad and Mr. Manoj Kalla, Natwar Singh respectively under the able guidance and supervision of NSS programme officers Dr. P. K. Sharma, Dr. R.S. Pathania and Prof. V.K. Chandan. |
