| Daily Aftab celebrates Golden Jubilee | | | Srinagar, August 25 – The scholarly personality and eminent editor considered to be one on the topmost the founders of high quality journalism in Jammu and Kashmir, Kh. Sonaullah Bhat Chief Editor and Founder of Daily Aftab does not require any introduction. He is the great personality w ho opened a new chapter in the history of journalism in Jammu and Kashmir and added repute and respect to this profession, a press release issued by department of Information said. Introducing Urdu Daily here some fifty years back, Khawaja sahib sticked to the high standards of journalism and never budged an inch to compromise on high principles and values of honest journalism of which he is epitome of, the release added. Many hurdles were in the way, many troubles and difficulties were ahead, I had to walk through vicissitudes of the times but I kept my journey on, I controlled the situation and became victorious and now, by the grace of God. Remembering old days, Khawaja said, “During those days Kashmiris were not fond of newspapers, they did not read it nor any one was enthusiastic to join this field but atmosphere has now changed a lot. He added, “The biggest problem was that there was no freedom of press, if press enjoyed a little bit freedom early even that was curbed in 1947. The then government and administration had no patience to bear the truthful criticism, telling truth was crime, however, we kept struggling”. Khawaja Sahib you wrote a lot during last 50 years your pen has unveiled many aspects of political scenario which itself speaks high of your power of pen. Your paper also provided ample room for the development of literature and language. From my childhood I have also found place in your columns. My short stories and articles had found space in your daily, kindly tell us which of the writers, scholars have impressed you as there were also personalities like Mehjoor, Abdul Ahad Zargar and other writers writing on Sheikh-ul-Aalam and on other subjects. |
