| Trikuta Club is new District Korfball champion | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 10 Trikuta Club clinched the Jammu District Korfball Championship turning the tables against defending champions, Jammu Blues by a narrow margin 14-12 in the final played today at Government Girls High School, Gandhi Nagar grounds, here. Inderpal mastermind the Trikuta Club victory making six baskets. Meenakshi and Ashwani were other two main scorers with two baskets each. Star performer from Jammu Blues, Irfan Choudhary put in best of efforts to bring the team out of difficult times, but could not catch the opponent score. He made five baskets while Amardeep and Deepanti added two each. Earlier, in the semi-finals, played in the morning session, Trikuta Club beat last year’s runners-up, Jammu Red by a wafer thin margin 10-9. Tied 5-5 at drinks, Trikuta Club initiated some sensible moves to fetch victory. In the second semi-final, Jammu Blues downed Jammu Lines again in a close contest 15-13 (ht 7-5). The running District Championship trophy was presented to the winners Trikuta Club by Superintendent of Police (South), Zahid Manhas, who was chief guest in the final. He first had an introduction with the finalist teams and later spoke to the players. Young police officer, Zahid Manhas laid emphasis on involving youth in sports activities so as to canalize their energies in a positive way.
