| CM files across Valley, catches bird's eye view | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 10 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today had an aerial survey of almost entire Kashmir Valley to make an assessment of the situation arising out of the huge snowfall. He was accompanied by some senior minister and top officers of administration and police. The Chief Minister also had an aerial survey of the snow affected areas in districts of Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Budgam and Bandipore. The Chief Minister complimented the district administrations for their quick response to the situation and reaching out to the people in distress. He had a word of appreciation for the coordination between various wings of administration with which the situation was tackled. He said officials who showed excellence and dedication to their job deserved commendation and referred to the cash award given by the Director General of Police to the police party that rescued people at Gulab Bagh, Qazigund the other day. He, however, asked the officers to be fully geared up to face such challenges in future also. He told them to keep ready the dewatering pumps for pumping out the water from the low lying areas. The Deputy Commissioners apprised the Chief Minister about the measures taken by them in mitigating the problems of the people caught by the heavy snowfall. The DC Anantnag informed the Chief Minister that despite heavy snowfall, all the main routes including those leading from Anantnag to Pahalgam, Vailoo and Verinag had been opened while work is on to clear snow from Verinag to Kapran and other routes including to Matigawran. He said electricity and water supply had been restored barring in some in-accessible areas. He said adequate essential commodities were available and market checking had been intensified. The Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam informed that barring Damhal- Hanjipora road, all routes to tehsil and block headquarters had been cleared of snow. He said work was on to restore road link to Damhal-Hanjipra and other higher reaches. He said in view of vulnerability to snow storms and avalanches, 320 persons of Waltengoo Nar, visted by a severe snowstorm in 2005, had been evacuated to safer places and 3 camps set up for them. At Baramulla, the Chief Minister was informed that 95 per cent roads had been cleared of snow in the district and the remaining 5 per cent link and interior roads were being cleared by engaging labourers. He was informed that four water supply schemes, two each in Rafiabad and Uri were damaged due to snowfall and restoration work was in full swing. At Kupwara, the Chief Minister was informed about the measures taken by the administration for providing all possible facilities to the people particularly living in higher belts in the district. He was told that 95 per cent power supply had been restored and roads were through for traffic. |
