| Lobbying on for last minute crowns | | Aspirants keenly wait for weather to settle down | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 11 As Jammu and Kashmir limps back to normalcy after a tumultuous week of mayhem unleashed by snowfall and rains, the political aspirations are one again brightening up to grab the last minute crowns in the election year. A vacant position in the ministry and promised top slots in the boards and corporations have made the aspirants within Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party to intensify lobbying. The wait is for the Chief Minister to settle down after monitoring rescue and relief operations for the peoples affected in climatic exigency. Shortly ahead of the commencement of budget session last month, the political circles were agog with the hopes of nominations as the heads of around one and half dozen boards and corporations. However, the hopes were dashed after National Conference pinned and punched the government at several places on charges of corruption, misuse of authorities and political favouritism. Now since the assembly session is over and the scope of protests from the opposition is limited, the government is once again mulling the appointments of political persons to the top positions in corporations and boards. A renewed lobbying has again begun within the aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress. An inclement weather and climatic exigency arising out of the huge snowfall which put the life out of gear across the state had, however, temporarily halted the political heat which was imminent in the election year. The aspirants are now keenly waiting for the Chief Minister to settle down and give a thought to the process of political consolidation. Since last time, the names of probable candidates considered by both parties for nominations to board and corporations were leaked out in the media, this time around fresh lobbying had been launched by those who could not get into the race. Meanwhile, in the Congress circles, an intensive lobbying is on for the vacant berth in ministry caused by the sacking of former Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed. Since the Education department comes under the Congress allocation therefore the lobbying for this position is exclusively within the Congress leaders. Sources pointed out that the Legislative Assembly Speaker Tara Chand is one the hot contenders for the vacant ministerial berth. When asked whether Chief Minister may not fill up this position at all, the sources maintained that one Minister will surely inducted in due course of time. It may be mentioned here that after sacking of Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, the Chief Minister has not allocated the charge of Education department to any Minister nor has attached the charge with himself. This indicates that a new Minister will be inducted shortly. |
