| Hockey: Khalsa Club reaches final | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 12 Title contender, Khalsa Club today reached the final of Ashwani Kapoor Memorial Hockey Tournament trouncing University of Jammu (JU) XI in the second semi-final at K K Hakhu Stadium, here. Already entered the final, Singh Club Bandhu Rakh shall be fighting against Khalsa Club in the title clash next week. “The final shall be played next week, reason being the full side of Singh Club was not immediately available for the ultimate battle,” resident secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Hockey Association (JKHA), Padam Dev Singh told SAN. Earlier, in the semi-finals today, Khalsa Club trounced JU XI 3-1. Tied at 1-1 at the end of first half, Khalsa Club had last laugh when Amandeep Singh converted a penalty corner into goal in the 42nd minute bringing the side 2-1 up. In the first half, Mandeep Singh sounded the board for Khalsa Club in the 27th minute, followed by the equalizer three minutes later from Amarjeet Singh. Still hopeful of a possible come back, JU XI committed a blunder when Tejiinder Singh created an intentional obstacle inside the penalty area resulting into referee, Dalbir Mehta awarding a penalty stroke in favour of Khalsa Club in the 59th minute. Availing the golden chance to further improve the lead, Rajinder Singh flicked the ball right into the net making it 3-1. During the well contest match, JU XI got more chances to score in the shape of five penalty corners as against Khalsa Club’s four. However, Khalsa Club managed to convert one such penalty corner into goal. In today’s second semi-final, Dalbir Mehta was accompanied by Jagjit Singh and D Singh as officials.
