| Council instructors without salary for 16 months | | | Early Times Reporter

Appointed in April 2002 on temporary regular basis, as many as six (one left the job) instructors are at the verge of starvation because they have not been paid a fixed monthly remuneration of Rs 4,000 for the last 16 months by the J&K State Sports Council.
In fact, these instructors (four from Srinagar) attend to their duties without salary awaiting approval of the `Standing Committee’ with regard to their extension in the contractual term.
“It is mandatory for the Sports Council to grant extension to term by six months before releasing the salaries. Unfortunately, the decision making body of Standing Committee failed to meet and take action in this regard resulting into the six instructors are without salary since long,” an official of the Sports Council told SAN on the condition of anonymity.
The six instructions, who have not been paid their minimum wages of Rs 4,000 per month are Mohd Iqbal (Thang-Tha), Riaz Ahmed (Ball Badminton), Surinder Kumar (Yoga), Rekha (Yoga), Farooq Ahmed Mir (Wushu) and Peer Mohd Amin (Swimming).
It has been reliably learnt that the order to regularize these six instructors was kept in abeyance by the then Sports Minister, Babu Singh in September, 2006. The proposal for regularization was mooted by former Secretary, Sports Council, Manoj Pant, so as to bring these instructors in the main stream of coaches.
When contacted Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Ravinder Gupta said, “The Council knows the importance of a coach, so we offered them (instructors) the consolidated salary which they declined to accept. In fact, these instructors want regularized salary for which the order has been kept in abeyance by the Sports Ministry awaiting a top level meeting.”
