| PDP, Congress to face polls together | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 12 Amidst chill, there is a talk of political warmth as Peoples Democratic Party senior vice president and Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig says that the alliance of his party with the Congress is perpetual. The relations between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress have seen many highs and lows, but all these months Baig has preferred to stay at the right side of the fence. Twice last year when PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and daughter Mehbooba Mufti made final call to pull out of the government, Baig went public saying that burning bridges with the Congress will burn hands of the Peoples Democratic Party. Now when the assembly elections are due anytime, the Deputy Chief Minister has opined that alliance is the best strategy to meet the challenges. Muzaffar Baig, who was in Delhi today said that his party will join hands with the Congress to contest assembly elections to be held in the state in September. "Of course we expect to join hands with the Congress party and return to power. There are others parties who are also in the fray," Baig said in Delhi. It may be mentioned here that the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is also currently in Delhi though the purposes of the visits of both are different. Even though the Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party need to enter into an alliance as a matter of compulsion but in the prevailing political scenario no other leader from any other party has publicly talked about the contours of alliance. Baig has however said that alliance is for sure and the only thing needed to be discussed is whether it should be a pre-poll arrangement or post-poll alliance. Meanwhile, he claimed that infiltration has come down in recent months, which is one of the biggest achievements of the Congress-PDP government. The coalition government will complete its six-year term in September.
