| VO seeks Academy job details | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 12 Following revelations that over two dozen appointments to various positions have been made in the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (Cultural Academy) in violation of rules, the Vigilance Organisation has initiated its preliminary proceedings. The State Vigilance Organisation has written to the Cultural Academy to furnish the details of all recruitments made since April 2006. The proceedings, it is reliably learnt, have been initiated on directions from the Chief Minister’s office. EARLY TIMES had access to the letter from the Vigilance Organisation to the Cultural Academy. It may be mentioned here that the EARLY TIMES had last week carried details of 23 appointments made in the Cultural Academy on different positions in complete violation of the rules. Interestingly, all those appointed on these positions happened to be close relatives of the officers of the Cultural Academy. The Vigilance Organisation has also asked the Cultural Academy to furnish the details of advertisements and notifications for each of these posts. Details of other procedural formalities followed in recruitments have also been asked. Sources said that the VO letter has sent the authorities in Cultural Academy in tizzy. Though the records have been prepared in a hush-hush manner but the authorities could not gather any evidence of public notifications for these positions. Other documents, it is learnt, have been prepared. It may be recalled that an application has been moved by a complainant in the State Accountability Commission against the Chief Minister for these backdoor appointments in the Cultural Academy. The Chief Minister happens to the President of the Academy. The SAC is, however, yet to issue notices. It is learnt that the Chief Minister’s Office has taken a strong note of the reports about illegal appointments in the Academy and the reference of SAC complaints in the Legislative Assembly had already caused embarrassment to the government. The Chief Minister’s Office, sources said, has asked for thorough probe of all appointments made since April 2006.
