| Declare Amarnath cave shrine as national heritage: NGO | | | Early Times Reporter

An NGO associated with the annual Amarnath yatra, Shri Amarnath Yatra Welfare Organization has urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to award status of National Heritage to the holy cave of Shri Baba Amarnathji.
The national president of the NGO and its chairman Rajinder Sharma and Amarpal Sharma have also written a letter to Prime Minister highlighting their main demand to award the status of National heritage to the holy shrine.
It is one of the greatest centres of spiritual belief for Hindus and people belonging to other religions and should be awarded the status of national heritage, the contents of the letter addressed to Prime Minister said.In the same vein the organization which is at the forefront of the campaign to improve facilities for pilgrims during the yatra period has also raised a demand to grant a sum of Rs 100 crores to the Shri Amarnath shrine board for helping it to conduct its affairs smoothly.Rajinder Sharma National president of the NGO said that ever since inception of shri Amarnath shrine board funds were not allotted to the shrine board by the central government.Even the shrine board has not been allotted any land for providing shelter, cottages, toilets and other public services for the pilgrims. He said the board is running its affairs by imposing a fee of Rs 25000 per langar committee and the same triggers resentment among organizers of the langar committees as they are providing free services to the pilgrims. He said another shameful thing which has come to their notice is that the shrine board also had to raise a loan from Shri Mata Vaishno devi shrine board to manage its affairs. The NGO has also drawn attention of the Prime Minister towards t he controversial issue of start and duration of yatra.The NGO has suggested that a committee of religious heads of various organization under the leadership of Swami Deependra giri and not Shrine board should be entrusted with the job of deciding the date and duration of the yatra. |
