| State Cong leaders elated over SOZ’S appointment as PCC Chief | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 13 State unit of the congress today welcomed the appointment of Union Water resources Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz as PCC chief after a month long wait. “We welcome the decision of the congress high command, state party leaders said denying reports of infighting in the state unit over the choice of PCC chief”. "There is no infighting in the party and we are a united house and welcome the decision of the central high command", several party leaders said here in Jammu welcoming the appointment of Prof Soz. It may be mentioned that chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was rallying hard for the post of the PCC chief in the election year and had even suggested names of his close aides to the central high command to appoint three working presidents. Azad was eager to take over the charge of the party to retain his hold over the party machinery especially when elections are round the corner. But the central high command chose to overlook Azad’s recommendations and went ahead with their strategy to appoint Soz as PCC chief. Central high command decided to give its nod in favour of Prof Soz after weighning long list of pros and cons. Soz had emerged front runner for the post of the PCC chief after Peerzada Mohd Sayeed facing charges of corruption had to submit his resignation from the post of the education minister and PCC chief in the second week of January. Party insiders asmit the congress high command had long back cleared the name of Prof Soz but section of the party leaders owing allegiance to Chief Minister were resisting such attempts. Statements issued by the senior congress leaders not willing to see Soz on the hot seat had made every effort to convince the party high command at the insistence of Azad but failed to reverse the decision of the party high command till last minute.Chief Minister was in New Delhi on Tuesday when the party high command conveyed its final decision to him before making the formal announcement |
