Workshop on Disaster Management held

As a part of the series of workshop, NSS ion collaboration with the centre for Disaster Management Jammu University organized a workshop on Disaster Management at Govt. Women College Gandhi Nagar.
Deputy Secretary to Chief Minister, Pawan Kotwal was the chief guest on the occasion while IGP Home Guards and Civil Defence Naveen Agarwal was the guest of honor on the occasion. The function was presided over by Prof. BPS Sehgal. Prof. Ashok Aihma convener for centre Disaster Management was also presented on the occasion.
During the workshop , the experts guide the audience on how to tackle the situation during the incident and after wards, how to involve community members, restructuring of administrative machinery, dissemination of early warning system, ensuring construction of disaster resistant buildings, insurance coverage of the structures, preparing inventory of equipments, steps for providing timely medical relief and procurement of relief material besides creation of awareness among the people from village to district level.
Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Kotwal said that as the state has been experiencing snow disaster in many parts of the state and unexpected snow has created situation where only disaster management can play its role. He further assured that Govt. would provide all help to promote their activities.
Dr Jasbir Singh, NCC Coordinator, Jammu University in his lecture stressed on the basics of as to what practically should be done by public at the time of disasters. He emphasized on the need to become part of solution than becoming part of problem.
A large number of NSS volunteer and NCC cadets along with staff members attended the workshop. Prof. Veena Gupta, Principal Govt. Women College Gandhi Nagar Jammu, congratulated the organizers for the role they played for welfare of general public and encouraged the students to work for upliftment and social services of the public.
