Jammu | Feb 13
State contingent comprising 50 women players in four different events of Gymnastics, Baketball, Hockey and Kho-Kho today left for four-day Group-III of National Sports Festival for Women taking place at Jallandhar in Punjab from tomorrow.
Earlier, after waiting for over a week for the interested sportswomen from Kashmir Province, who failed to reach Jammu due to bad weather, the Sports Council finalised the teams under the guidance of concerned coaches yesterday and flagged off the contingent today.
The contingent is being led by senior Kabaddi coach, Ajay Gupta as incharge along with coaches of the respective disciplines.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Group-III of the National Sports Festival for Women was allotted to Jammu and Kashmir by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), but due to certain unavoidable circumstances the State Sports Council expressed its inability to hold the Festival in Jammu. “The event was earlier scheduled to be held in Jammu in the month of December but was postponed for February. And, again because of some unavoidable circumstances we could not hold the Festival resulting into SAI shifted the same to Jallandhar in Punjab,” Sports Officer (Jammu) of State Sports Council, Krishan Sharma told Sports & Allied News.
