| CM visits far-off snow hit areas | | Highlights early restoration of supply line, connectivity | | Early Times Reporter Doda | Feb 14 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today visited Kaljugasar, Chirala, Chinta and Chakrabhati, the far-flung areas of Doda district hit by recent heavy snowfall and took stock of the problems of local people affected by the vagaries of the weather. Kaljugasar is situated in the mountains bordering Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The Chief Minister talked with the people and obtained first hand report on the situation. He assured them that the government had pressed into service men and machinery to reach out to the people in snowbound areas and ensure that their problems were addressed on priority. He stressed on the need for immediate snow clearance from roads and village paths so that supply of food grains and other essentials was restored to the snow bound areas to meet the requirements of the people. He called for engaging local people in snow clearance which, he said, would facilitate early restoration of connectivity and supply system besides generating wage employment for them. He asked the administration to restore power supply speedily in the electrified areas. Azad assured the people that ration, medicines and other essentials, wherever required, would be rushed by the administration. He said teams of doctors would also be sent if the need arose. He appreciated the people for facing bravely the challenge of heavy snowfall. He issued instructions to the administration to compile details of losses caused due to unprecedented snowfall. Azad said that road connectivity and ensuring basic facilities in hitherto neglected areas was high on the agenda of his government. He said all villages in the State would have the facilities of roads, schools, healthcare, water and power supply besides other amenities in the next five years. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sudhanshu Pandey accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit. |
