In support of its demand for grant of OBC status to the Jats of Jammu and Kashmir, over 1000 members of the Jat community today organized a peace march under the aegis of Jat Kalyan Sabha from Kalibari Kathua to Mini-Secretariat. Those delegates from Samba, Vijaypur, Nandpur, Bishnah, R S Pura, Suchetgarh, Marh, Akhnoor, Nowshera, Poonch, Raipur Domna and Jammu city participated in the peace march. Addressing the marchers, Ch. Kamal Singh President of the Sabha alleged that the community has gone most backward as they could not educate their children due to the frequent dislocations on account of bitter relations between India and Pakistan. Moreover, 90 per cent of the community members residing along Indo-Pak border and Line of Control work in commercial mandies as labourers, he said. General Secretary All India Jat Maha Sabha Ch. Ranbir Singh, who led the marchers, assured that Jats from all over the country are with them and will leave no stone unturned in getting their genuine demand conceded. The marchers later presented a Memorandum to the Chief Minister through the District Development Commissioner highlighting their demand. The memorandum interalia said that while the Jats of Delhi, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Western UP have already been granted the OBC status but regrettable those living in Jammu and Kashmir have been deprived of this facility. G L Choudhary, Avtar Singh, Jagdev Singh, Sat Pal, Anil Choudhry, Master Bachan, Harbans Lal, Jarnail Singh, Rashpal Singh. Ch. Mohammed Azum, Col Roshan Lal, and several other leaders also addressed the gathering.
