Worklord takes workers hostage

In today’s age of transparency and human rights activism, can one imagine a work-lord enslaving his workers. Reports have this that owner of a brick kiln in Reasi has taken ten workers hostage after they demanded their due wages.
One Gurbaksh Singh of Amritsar has complained before the Jammu and Kashmir High Court that ten of his relatives have taken into custody by one Diwakar, owner of Maa Bhagwati Brick Kiln at Bhambla Road in Reasi district.
The court has has directed the SHO of Police Station Reasi to immediately visit the brick kiln to find out the matter. In case he finds them to be detained, he shall immediately get them released from custody and permit them to go with the petitioner, said Justice JP Singh with the directions to SHO to also file the compliance report.
Earlier Advocate Akshay Anand submitted that ten relatives of the petitioner have been detained by the brick-kiln owner illegally. During the course of argument Adv Akshay Anand submitted that the relatives of the petitioner who had came along with him to work as labourers. It is submitted that when he and his relatives had demanded wages from the owner of Brick-Kiln, they were beaten-up and threatened that they would be killed in case they raised any demand for wages. Counsel for the petitioner further submitted that the respondent illegally detained the relatives of the petitioner against their whishes and seeking direction for the release of those who had been detained by the owner.
Justice JP Singh while directing police observed that court is satisfied on the basis of what is contained in the petition and affidavit of the petitioner that Poli, Neha, Sonu, Kash, Kewal, Rita, Gudi, Kalu, Sunita and Kaka are in illegal detention of Dwarka the Prop of Maa Bhagwati Brick-Kiln. To protect the life and liberty of these persons it is considered just and proper to direct SHO P/S Reasi.
