Students continue protest against transporters
5/29/2018 10:43:08 PM

Early Times Report
KISHTWAR, May 29: Students hailing from Hasti and its adjoining areas on 2nd consecutive day today held a strong protest against the transporters for not picking up the students during the school hours.
Details available with Early Times said that the angry students today again blocked the Kishtwar-Jammu National Highway near Hasti as a result of which the vehicular movement on the highway remains closed for hours together. The angry students alleged that despite assurance from Tehsildar Kishtwar yesterday, the minibus owners, bus owners or matadors did not pick up them during school hours as a result of which they remain stranded and was not able to reach the schools on time.
Amid massive protest, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Abhey Indu Sharma along with DySP HQ Kishtwar Nihar Ranjan rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitating students. Both the officers assured the agitating students that the problems faced by them will be looked into. ARTO Kishtwar also warned action against those transporters who will not lift the students for schools merely on the grounds that students are entitled for only half fare. On the assurance of both the officers, the students called off the protest.
When contacted, ARTO Kishtwar said that they have sought two to three from the students for addressing the issue. He said that those transporters or vehicle owners who did not comply the government order with regard to half fare eligibility to students will face action including cancelation of permit of the vehicle who violate such directions.
